Juan Ulloa is the founder of Directive Social Media (DSM) a Washington, DC-based social media marketing, content management and public relations consultancy. DSM helps organizations develop, manage and disseminate information across various platforms (i.e., websites, blogs, Facebook, Twitter, foursquare etc.). It specializes in working with restaurant, hospitality, beer, wine, spirits, cigar, real estate and luxury goods companies.

Ulloa founded DSM in 2010, after 20 years as a public relations professional for agencies, non-profits and various Fortune 500, restaurant and food companies. DSM’s current clients include: W. Curtis Draper Tobacconist, the oldest full-service tobacconist in the District of Columbia and fourth oldest in the United States; Shelly’s Back Room tavern and cigar lounge; Urban Latin American restaurant Mio, the Cigar Reader blog; writer/blogger Tom Johansmeyer; New York City real estate broker Michael Davu and the aforementioned Riverdale Specialty Foods.

Ulloa is a member of the American Culinary Federation (ACF), the nation’s oldest association of professional chefs. Active with his alma mater Cardinal Hayes High School (Bronx, New York), he sits on the school’s Board of Directors. Ulloa is a graduate of the culinary arts and restaurant management programs of the Art Institute of New York City (formerly The New York Restaurant School). Prior to that he attended Iona College in New Rochelle, New York where he pursued a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Mass Communications. He resides with his wife and daughter in Washington, DC.
